President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962. During this annual weeklong celebration, SNA members and students around the country celebrate in their cafeterias with decorations, special menus, events, and more. The 2018 NSLW theme is “School Lunch: Lots 2 Love”, and it’s all about showing off the secrets to your school lunch success in your schools and districts—The National School Lunch Program serves more than 30 million children every school day—that’s something to love!
Capitalize on NSLW with our tools and resources, including social media tips to help you promote your program to parents and students!
Why participate in NSLW?
Recognizing NSLW in your district or your cafeteria helps you:
What if the timing doesn’t work for us?
NSLW 2018 is scheduled for October 15-19 by an act of Congress, but if you have a student holiday or teacher work day during that week you can celebrate anytime! The week before, or the week after—it’s up to you!
Invite Parents to Lunch
Want to convince parents that school lunch has changed since they were in school? Invite them to come experience it themselves!
SNA has teamed up with KIWI magazine for National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day. On Wednesday, October 17, 2018 (or really any day during NSLW that works best for you) we encourage you to host “National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day” and invite parents to attend lunch with their children.
Below is a checklist to help you plan your event, and you can also check out KIWI’s website, www.kiwimagonline.com/lunchday, to see their resources for schools and parents.
More tips for promoting your program to parents also available in the NSLW 2018 toolkit.
More information can be found on the SNA website!
