2007 School lunch reimbursements have increased to 12 cents per lunch. The new funding will amount to 3 million over two years.
2005 School lunch reimbursement increased from 8 cents to 10 cents per lunch.
Kindergarten milk reimbursement increased from 9 cents to 14 cents per carton.
2004 $2.5 million in deficiency funding for school breakfast and kindergarten milk passed.
2003 School lunch funding not cut despite $4.56 billion state budget shortfalll. School breakfast funding increased by $3.6 million over the biennium.
  Reimbursement for paid breakfasts increased from 5.1 cents to 55 cents, and for reduced price breakfasts from 5.1 cents to 30 cents. Reimbursement for free breakfasts eliminated.
  Fast Break to Learning breakfast program eliminated.
  Kindergarten milk funding cut by $300,000 per year.
2002 No cuts in state school meals funding despite a $2.4 million state budget shortfall.
  Successfully opposed a proposal by Governor Ventura to impose the sales tax on school district purchases.
2001 School lunch funding increased by $754,000 over the biennium.
  The Fast Break appropriation will increase by $285,000 over the next two years. Fast Break became a forecasted state program, so that funding is guaranteed for all schools that meet the eligibility criteria.
  In addition, the requirement that participating schools provide a match of $1 in local funds for every $3 of state funds was eliminated for Fast Break.
2000 School Lunch and School Breakfast became forecasted state programs, so that the per meal reimbursements stated in law became guaranteed (prior to that, state reimbursements were often prorated when state funding ran short). Funding for both lunch and breakfast was increased by over $l million that year, even though it was a non-budget year.
  Fast Break to Learning program was made a permanent state program.
1999 School lunch funding increased by $860,000 over the biennium.
  School breakfast funding retained at current level despite Governor's proposal to eliminate.
  Targeted breakfast renamed Fast Break to Learning funding increased by $3,963,000 over the biennium.

1996 Data privacy exception granted to enable children on public assistance to be automatically certified as eligible for free/reduced school meals.

  School breakfast funding increased by $75,000 over the biennium.
  Universal Breakfast Pilot funded for two years ($192,000).
1994 Universal breakfast pilot funded for the first time.
  School breakfast funding increased by $200,000 per year.
1993 School lunch funding increased by $1,200,000 over the biennium.
  School breakfast funding enacted for the first time ($200,00 per year).
1992 Cost allocation standards successfully defended against attack by Minnesota School Boards Association
1991 School lunch funding increased by $1,000,000 over the biennium.
