On May 17, 2017, the Minnesota School Nutrition Association (MSNA) Board of Directors voted to approve the recently introduced State Affiliation Agreement to formalize its relationship with the national School Nutrition Association (SNA).

For 70 years, SNA State Affiliates have been working together with SNA to ensure that well-nourished students across the country are prepared for success. We have been doing this by working together and supporting one another, collaborating on initiatives important to the profession, openly communicating, and advocating together to ensure that this country has the best school nutrition program in the world. Because of these efforts – SNA nationwide membership is the highest it has been in over 15 year!

An Affiliation Agreement is a legal document to formalize the partnership between a national organization and its state affiliates and is considered by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) to be a best practice for national associations. SNA is now taking this important step in formalizing the partnerships with its Affiliates, in an effort to better protect the association and serve our members.

SNA introduced the Agreement at its National Leadership Conference (NLC) on May 3-6, 2017. Affiliate leaders have been encouraged to share the Agreement with their state boards of directors for discussion, voting and approval. Minnesota SNA became the first state affiliate to enter formally into the Agreement earlier this month. SNA anticipates receiving more signed Agreements in the months ahead.
